What is Vedic Astrology?

“The science of light”

Jyotish · ज्योतिष · 5000+ years

Vedic astrology originates from the Vedas, the most ancient sacred texts of India. It studies the influence of planets and stars on human consciousness — a tradition of self-knowledge, not fortune-telling. Based on observation, calculation, and classical texts, it maps the relationship between the sky at the moment of your birth and the life you live.

Sidereal vs. Tropical

The single biggest difference between Western and Vedic systems.

Western astrology uses the tropicalzodiac — signs are fixed to the seasons. Vedic astrology uses the siderealsystem — signs follow actual star positions. There is a ~24° difference between them. Your Western Aries Sun might be Pisces in the Vedic chart.

Vedic astrology also emphasizes the Moon sign, Nakshatras, and Dasha periods — none of which exist in the Western framework.

Key Concepts

01

Lagna

Ascendant

The sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. The most important point in your Vedic chart — it represents your personality, body, and outlook on life.

02

Rashi

Moon Sign

In Vedic astrology, the Moon sign is more important than the Sun sign. It reflects your emotional nature, inner world, and mental patterns.

03

Nakshatra

Lunar Mansion

27 unique lunar mansions, each spanning 13°20′. The most distinctive layer of Vedic astrology — Western astrology has no equivalent.

04

Dasha

Planetary Periods

Your life unfolds in planetary chapters — each one shaped by a different planet. A 120-year cycle that reveals why certain themes keep showing up.

05

Sade Sati

Saturn’s Return

Saturn’s 7.5-year transit cycle around your Moon sign. One of life’s deepest transformation periods — not to be feared, but understood.
